18 karat gold Pendant with Sapphire and Opal.
This pendant, was inspired by a womans body building competition photo collage I saw that just blew me away. So impressive. Such intense dedication and stamina. Here 18 karat yellow gold arms are surrounding an unbelievable Lightening Ridge Australian crystal opal, totally clear to transmitted light, set open backed in 22 karat yellow gold, just as fiery from the back. But its the mind that produces the courage to succeed, and this piece is no exception. Heading this off is a natural 1.31 carat Cornflower Blue Sri Lankan Sapphire, set in an 18 karat yellow gold hand built basket setting. Photographing these two together is a lesson in compromise for sure. I would say that the opal is closer to the actual though not colorful enough and that the Sapphire is a little on the dark side, but you get the idea. (This shot was the best of over thirty attempts, I can truly say the photo does not do it justice.) Piece is Aprox. 35mm x 38mm overall size.
